The number of people who have lost their lives in the ongoing EndSARS protest in Nigeria is 69, President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed.

According to the president, the deaths were mainly civilians but include police officers and soldiers.

He disclosed this when he met with Nigerian leaders aimed at finding ways to end the unrest, BBC reports.

Meanwhile, it is not clear these figures included the protesters allegedly killed by security forces in Lekki, Lagos.

In a related development, Nigeria's vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, expressed sadness over the killing of some #EndSARS protesting youths at Lekki Tollgate in Lagos state on Tuesday, October 20.

In a thread of tweets posted on his verified Twitter handle, @ProfOsinbajo, on Wednesday night, October 21, the vice president also registered his condolence over the deaths of some policemen and other Nigerians in different parts of Lagos and other states.

Noting that he has spoken to some survivors in the hospital, Professor Osinbajo admitted that some losses so far recorded can not be replaced.
