5 abducted as terrorists set police vehicle ablaze In Zamfara

Ravaging terrorists have razed down a police vehicle during a midnight attack on Maru town in Zamfara State, North West Nigeria.

The attack took place on Sunday, November 5, leading to the death of one person. They reportedly targeted the Divisional Police Headquarters in Maru town.

Witnesses say about five persons were also abducted in the Gida-Goma area, including Nasiru Mohammed, a lecturer at the Zamfara State College of Education. One resident, Junaidu Isah, 42, said he narrowly escaped the deadly attack.

Isah revealed that the terrorists took strategic positions in Maru, making it difficult for security operatives to quell the heinous attack.

“The terrorists set the police vehicle on fire and completely burnt it,” said Saminu Hassan, a local trader in Maru.

“Although none of the police officers was killed or sustained injury during the attack, soldiers were here to rescue the people but could not help immediately.”

The attack follows multiple terror raids in Maru town, especially in the past week.

On October 27, the terrorists killed the head of a vigilante group while on the trail of the town’s monarch.

Also, in Tsafe town, near the Gidan Giye village, three police officers were killed during a night raid.

The Sole Administrator of Maru Local Government Council, Yusuf Sani-Bindi, confirmed the incident, saying, “We will work with the security operatives and seek more reinforcement and deployment of more security personnel in order to avoid further occurrences of these attacks.”

Also, a security expert who asked not to be named said, “These attacks largely linked to the resurgence of the terrorist attacks are a reaction to the ongoing recruitment of the Community Protection Guards (CPGs) and the military operations both ground and airstrikes in the state.”

When contacted for comment on the latest incident, the Police Divisional Officer of Maru LGA Police Headquarters declined to comment, saying, “I am not in the position to speak on behalf of the Zamfara State Police Command.”
