An improvised explosive device has led to the death of 30 people in Borno state yesterday.

The bomb exploded on a crowded bridge in the market town of Gamboru, near neighbors Cameroon, exactly 5pm yesterday.

Civilian Joint Task Force, a group of citizens formed to fight Boko Haram, confirmed the attack and the early death toll estimates.

Eye-witnesses described the news as unfortunate.

“It is an unfortunate day for us to witness this frustrating and devastating incident in our community,” an eyewitness said.

“I just heard a loud sound of explosions, before I realized I saw many of our friends and colleagues were killed,” he added.

No group is yet to take responsibility for the attack.

More than 35 people were injured and ferried to the local hospital for treatment
