A 21-year-old motorist on Tuesday sustained serious injuries after ramming his car into a truck along Station Junction, Azikiwe Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Eyewitnesses said the victim was on top speed not knowing that the truck was stationary.

PUNCH Metro gathered that he was rushed to a hospital, where he was admitted.

Some residents, who spoke to our correspondent, decried the indiscriminate parking of trucks along major roads in the city, adding that the victim might have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

A woman, who did not identify herself, said, “I pray that the young man survives though his skull appeared to have been damaged.

“But the way trucks are parked carelessly in this town is not good. Anywhere you go in this Port Harcourt now it is either a truck has broken down or is wrongly parked. It is a new trend; Port Harcourt was not like this before. Let the government do something about it to prevent this kind of crash.”

Our correspondent learnt that the saloon car was towed away by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The acting spokesman for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, promised to contact the Central Police Station to get details of the incident.

She had yet to get back to our correspondent as of the time of filing this report.
