The Labour Party has reserved its presidential ticket for the 2027 presidential elections "solely" for Peter Obi who represented the party last year.

Julius Abure maintained his position as national chairman of the party at the convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State, amid heavy security.

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti was also accorded the same privilege.

Abure's re-election didn't come without controversy as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) says it won't recognize Abure as chairman.

NLC spokesman, Benson Upah declared the election as "an illegality, a nullity. The whole exercise was a charade! Nothing can legitimize such brazen impunity.”

When asked for labor’s next line of action, Upah said, “You wait and see.”

At the end of the convention, Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, who served as the chairman of the convention, declared Abure winner after unanimous support from the delegates, The Punch reports.

Emetu represented his principal, Governor Otti.

Peter Obi, his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, Senator Victor Umeh and Senator Tony Nwoye were the notable individuals missing at the convention.
