The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has issued a warning regarding calls for ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to run in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike claimed that these calls are a calculated move by certain individuals aimed at destabilising the nation.
During an appearance on Channels Television's “Politics Today" in Abuja on Wednesday night, he criticised the supporters, pointing out that those who opposed Jonathan’s bid in 2015 are now the ones urging him to return, despite his reputation as an esteemed international statesman.
“Anybody saying Jonathan should return because he will only do one term is only looking for crisis. These are the same people who abandoned him in 2015. Why now? Jonathan has made a name for himself globally and they just want to drag him into unnecessary conflict,” Wike said.
The minister warned against efforts to destabilise the political balance by promoting Jonathan or any candidate from the South under the pretence of a “one-term presidency,” describing such actions as insincere.
Regarding President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Wike acknowledged that the country was experiencing challenging times but maintained that the president had made tough yet necessary decisions to reposition the economy.
“Yes, there is hardship. I agree. But no one can deny that this government is making efforts to improve things. I see the projects in Abuja daily; they are evidence that something is happening,” he stressed.
