Former Governor of Edo State Senator Adams Oshiomhole has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to safeguard his legacy by refraining from the temptation to vie for the 2027 presidential seat.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Oshiomhole conveyed this counsel, suggesting that only Jonathan’s adversaries would prefer him to enter the race.
He further warned that if Jonathan decides to run, he could face defeat at the hands of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Oshiomhole said: “How can Jonathan be a threat? We defeated him before, when PDP was truly PDP. If a man had PDP at its peak, I think it is only his enemies that will push him into the ring.
“That may not be helpful to him. I think he has managed to demonstrate that out of power you can be relevant and really at peace.
“If I will be able to advise him, I will say ‘Sir, maintain this status’. If I were him I will spend the rest of my life trying to find relevance, which he has already found”.
Oshiomhole also expressed the belief that President Bola Tinubu will defeat any ticket involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-governor Peter Obi as his running mate in 2027.
According to him, both men ran on the same ticket in 2019 and lost to the APC, which fielded incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said: “Did Atiku and Obi not run together before and contested against APC? You can throw any number you want to throw but the point is that when these two ran together, they were loudly defeated by APC. So why are you suggesting if the two, when they did before, what happened?
“You are the one who is recycling history. They have a history of being defeated together, and they have a history of being defeated apart. They ran together. They were defeated. They ran separately, they were defeated. If they come back together, very good. They will still be defeated,” Oshiomhole said.
