President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, on Thursday said the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has no plans of restoring fuel subsidy if elected President in 2027.

Recall that Tinubu had ended the fuel subsidy regime during his presidential inauguration in Abuja in 2023.

The president had said the removal of fuel subsidy would stop the cabals benefitting from the scheme, while the funds accrued would be put to better use.

Since the commencement of the 2027 election campaign, the ADC presidential candidate has been reeling out how he intends to restore the subsidy on fuel.

Atiku’s spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo, while featuring on Arise Television’s Prime Time, said if the “entire subsidy was removed without any plan, subsidy can be restored without any plan”.

Reacting, Bwala described Okonkwo’s remark as a populist rhetoric.

Posting on X, the presidential aide wrote: “Hear @Atiku plan to restore subsidy, lol we told you there is no plan, it’s just a populist rhetoric.”
