2023 presidency is our turn - Ndigbo tells northern, southwest leaders

Igbo leaders have highlighted some reasons while the 2023 presidency should be ceded to the southeast

The president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK & Northern Ireland, Nnanna Elias Igwe, said Igbo presidency will end the agitation for secession

Igwe added in the message directed to leaders from the southwest and the north that the southeast deserves to be involved in deciding the nation's fate

Ahead of the next general elections in 2023, the leaders of Igbo have continued to speak on the need to ensure the southeast produce Nigeria's next president.

The Igbo leaders under the auspices of Global Movement for Igbo President (GLOMIP 2023) and the Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK & Northern Ireland made the renewed call at a news conference in Abuja, Vanguard reported.

The president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo UK & Northern Ireland, Dr Nnanna Elias Igwe, who was represented by GLOMIP's media officer, Mazi Godfrey Azu, gave two key reasons why the Igbo deserves the presidency in 2023.

Igwe said giving the presidency to the Igbo in 2023 is one of the key ways to stop the recurring secessionist agitations.

He also added that the Igbo, being a part of the "tripod" that allegedly formed Nigeria at Independence, deserves to be actively involved in deciding the fate of the country.

The Ndigbo leader also sent a message to Nigerian leaders from the north and the southwest to know that the 2023 presidency is non-negotiable for the southeast, saying "enough is enough".

Also speaking at the event, a former governor of Anambra state, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, called for a restructuring of the country.

He added that the Igbo are already projecting some persons for the 2023 presidential contest.

He also dismissed concerns that the Igbo are republican in nature and may not be able to unite for a common cause, especially with regards to the 2023 presidency.
