2023: We'll take over Buhari's seat very soon - PDP

For the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), unity among its working organs and levels of authority is the biggest strategy to clinch victory in the 2023 presidential election.

This is why the foremost Nigerian opposition party on Thursday, March 11, during a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting agreed to appease and bring back all aggrieved members, Punch reports.

The PDP is said it is doing this already through the Bukola Saraki-led reconciliation and strategy committee.

Senator Adolphus Wabara, the BoT's secretary, revealed that presently the board is working with all its chapters to make sure members uphold high moral standards and cooperation with their regional heads.

Wabara said: “The Board of Trustees in playing its statutory role as the conscience of the party will work earnestly towards ensuring that the highest level of morality exists in all its activities and that all the members of our party live up to expectation.

“With a determination to do all that is necessary to ensure that we fulfil the overwhelming desire of the vast majority of the people of Nigeria that the PDP regains national power in 2023 the board is unequivocally committed to ensuring that normalcy and peace prevail through all the organs of the party."

Meanwhile, the PDP was considering two options in choosing its presidential candidate in 2023; open contest and zoning.

The ruling APC and the PDP had been occupied with the politics of how and where to choose their presidential flagbearers.

Political stakeholders from the southeastern part of the country had been at the forefront of the 2023 debate as they argue that it is the turn of the region to produce President Muhammadu Buhari's successor.
