2023: Lagos APC candidates pledge quality representation if elected

The Lagos Mainland All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates have pledged to ensure quality representation in education, health and socio-economic development to the people if elected.

The candidates are Mr Olanrewaju Oshun, Mr Ajani Owolabi and Mr Rasheed Shabi vying for seats at the House of Representatives Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency, the Lagos State House of Assembly Mainland I and II, respectively .

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the candidates made the pledge in Lagos at a town hall meeting/unveiling of candidates tagged: “Know The APC Candidates To Vote For 2023.”

Oshun, the incumbent lawmaker representing Lagos Mainland II at the Lagos Assembly, said that if elected, his focus would be on health initiative through timely waste evacuation to avoid exposure to infections.

“l had facilitated the renovation of seven schools in Lagos Mainland and l promise to do more if elected into House of Representatives seat,” Oshun added.

On his part, Owolabi, the incumbent lawmaker representing Lagos Mainland I at the Lagos Assembly, said he would be involved in progressive politics while striving to enhance education, irrespective of tribe or religious affinity.

Owolabi added that he would pay more attention to the development of education by increasing access and provision of scholarships to indigent students.

The lawmaker said he had been directly involved in five bills which were passed into law in the state.

“As the Chairman, Committee on Education, if re-elected, l will represent the youth by giving them quality education at all levels,” he said.

Similarly, Shabi said as part of his constituency outreach, he would make judicious utilisation of his constituency allowance to bring socio-economic development to the people.

“I will use my position to contribute positively, especially through the enactment of laws that will be of direct benefit to the state.

Shabi added that he would ensure that the state comes out with regulations, policies and laws that would benefit the people especially in the areas of health, environment and employment.

He said that empowerment programme for women and youths would his priority to reduce unemployment.

Shabi said that he would engage professionals in various skills to train people on various vocations as part of his economic empowerment initiative for job creation.

In her remarks, the Chairman Lagos Mainland, Mrs Omolola Essien, urged women and youths to use their voting strength to elect credible leaders for the country in 2023.

“Women and youths are critical stakeholders in election due to their large population.

“There is the need for grassroots campaign, especially for our market women, and youths who seem to constitute the greater percentage of voters.

“This meeting is to sensitise the electorate on the need to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and assure them of a violence free elections in 2023,” she said.

Earlier, the APC Lagos Mainland Campaign Committee Chairman, Mr Ayodeji Abdulrauf, said the essence of the meeting was to ensure the electorate meet their candidates one on one.

Abdulrauf stated that it is important to ensure victory for the party at the 2023 election.

“This meeting will afford the electorate the opportunity to meet their candidates, ask salient questions while expecting them to deliver on their mandate,” he said.

Abdulrauf, however, urged the people to get their PVCs while ensuring they come out to exercise their civic responsibility on the election day.

He noted that without the PVC, the electorate cannot exercise their power adding that it is the only tool that could be used to do the best for the country.

On security, he appealed to government to do more by providing responsive and reliable security before, during and after the election.

He also charged INEC to be up to the task by ensuring a free and fair election.

“INEC should abide by the rules and comply by the laws so that we have a free and fair election,” Abdulrauf added.
