The Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa has accepted to be the running mate of flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar for the 2023 general election.
In his acceptance speech, he expressed his gratitude to Atiku and the party. He also promised to stay loyal and be committed to the course.
Ifeanyi Okowa beat River States Governor, Nyesom Wike and Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom state to emerge the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
He said; "I accept wholeheartedly and I pledge to stay loyal and committed."
Making the announcement Thursday afternoon, June 16, Atiku noted that his decision to pick Okowa was guided by the 'wisemen' of the party.
Adding that Okowa poses the good qualities of a vice president who understands the critical importance of economic rule.
Listing some qualities of his running mate, Atiku said;
- His running mate must stand to fight the insecurity issues ravaging the country, also symbolizes unity across all the states and work with him to achieve that.
- Must not be afraid to speak his mind on issues and give him advise.
- Must assist the president with governance after wining the presidential election.
- Must be ready to start working with him to address the country's challenges.
- Must be focused and discipline.
