The former deputy governor of Sokoto state, Mukhtar Shagari, has revealed that the Labour Party wanted him to become Peter Obi’s running mate.

Speaking in an interview with Channel Television, Shagari said he refused the offer because he did not believe Peter Obi could win the 2023 election.

According to Shagari, he is particular about what the Labour party is, before declining the offer to be a vice presidential candidate to Peter Obi.

“I do not see the path through which Peter Obi will win the election in this country.”

According to the PDP chieftain, in other to become a president in Nigeria a person must belong to either the All Progressives Congress or the Peoples Democratic Party.

Adding that in some areas in the southeast, people still engage in proper politics while some youths on social media are shouting Peter Obi.

“But the truth of the matter is that there are two dominant parties in this country – APC and PDP. If you want to become President, I think you must belong to one of them.”

“It’s purely a party affair,” he said.

He noted that there is no provision for zoning in Nigeria’s constitution.
