Coronavirus pandemic delay movie premieres Coronavirus pandemic delay movie premieres

The world is currently in the midst of a battle with the coronavirus pandemic that has crippled numerous events globally, such as the world economy, sports, travel industry amidst others.

A global record as of today shows that there are more than 200,000 confirmed cases and over 8,000 deaths.

A sad one is the list of celebrities that have tested positive for coronavirus; Tom Hanks and wife, Rita Wilson, James Bond 007's Olga Kurylenko, Idris Elba, amidst others...

The world is in dire need of a superhero at the moment and there is no human alive to battle this virus, worst is, no Stan Lee, to write the script.

As the world battles, the pandemic formally called COVID-19 by the World Health Organization, MyNigeria.com takes a look at the some of the most anticipated movies for the year 2020 that may be affected by the pandemic.

Here is a list of the movies that have so far/expected to be affected by the pandemic:

  1. 007's No Time To Die:

The new James Bond '007' film, "No Time To Die", which would have premiered on the 3rd April has now been moved to 12th November after two fan sites called on the film studios to delay its release, according to the BBC.

  2. Fast 9:

Recall that "Shaw and Hobbs" took the world by storm for its action pack but what's more shocking was the fact that majority of the 'Fast 9' characters were missing, though, it didn't take away the thrill but a Fast and Furious sequel without Dominic Toretto and the bigmouthed Roman Pearce would just not be interesting; I would be stating the obvious by mentioning Brian O'Conner (in loving memory of Paul Walker...)

The much-anticipated sequel of the Fast and Furious franchise - 'Fast 9' set for May 2020 release has been postponed till around April 2021, as agreed by Universal Studios.

  3. BlackWidow:

If you are a fan of Marvel's "Avenger" series then this solo of the "Blackwidow" is something you should look out for.

Scarletta Johansson plays the Black Widow character (aka Natasha Romanova), which was first introduced in 2010’s Iron Man 2, well known for her role as part of the Avengers that took down on of the world's best villain, Thanos.

The movie's expected release date is the 24th of April 2020, in the UK and on May 1, 2020, in the US but with the world currently battling the coronavirus pandemic, the release date could be moved to a later date.

So far, Marvel has not yet spoken a word on the status of its first big Marvel film of 2020 after End Game in 2019.

  4. Mulan:

Ever seen a girl in a war suit? you're gonna love it. Mulan hit the screen first in the 1998 cartoon.

Young Mulan disguised herself as a man and joined the army in the place of her father who could barely walk (A compulsory inclusion by the emperor in defence against the invading Huns.

Disney has made the highly-anticipated movie billed to premiere on March 27 but had to be postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. The studio has not yet announced a new date.

  5. Morbius:

If you are a lover of vampire movies, you're gonna wanna grab popcorn and a drink as you anticipate of this particular movie.

Morbius, the Living Vampire - a former award-winning biochemist named Michael Morbius imbued with pseudo-vampiric superhuman abilities and physical traits stemming from a failed biochemical experiment which was intended to cure his rare blood disorder, as opposed to supernatural means.

The movie is set for July 31, 2020 (United States) and this one may not be affected by the pandemic, ie, if the world gets a cure before the next three months.

However, if the pandemic stays longer than expected, the release date may be postponed as well.

Marvel Entertainment and Columbia Pictures have not said anything on it at the moment

  6. A Quiet Place Part II:

Ever wondered what the world would be like without making a sound, where anything away from the natural ambience gets you killed? This is the movie to consider before embarking on a numb journey.

The first sequel will literally scare the living day out of you and the movie makers have taken it a nudge up.

The movie missed the 8 March 2020 release and Paramount is yet to announce a new release date.

  7. The New Mutants:

The long-delayed horror mutant movie, a supposed instalment of the X-Men film series(according to Wikipedia), was due for April 3 release.

The movie has had multiple release dates that were eventually postponed, dating back from :
    - April 13, 2018
    - August 2, 2019
    - February 22, 2019
    - April 3, 2020

Why?: It was originally set to be released on April 13, 2018, before being delayed to February 22, 2019, to avoid Deadpool 2, and then to August 2, 2019, to avoid Dark Phoenix.

Once again, it has failed to premiere, this time. owing to the outbreak of the coronavirus. Disney and the 20th Century Studios have pushed the movie release till further notice,
