Gombe State Government has begun the fumigation of 2,021 secondary schools ahead of resumption of students in exit classes.

The schools are expected to reopen today for students in terminal classes after a four-month closure due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Commissioner for Environment and Forest Resources, Dr Hussaina Goje said 50 officials of the Gombe State Environmental Protection Agency (GOSEPA), are participating in the exercise.

Goje, represented by the Director of Planning in the ministry, Sani Jauro, said that out of the 2, 021 schools, 154 are Senior Secondary Schools, 347 are Junior Secondary Schools and 1,520 are Primary schools.

On its part, the Kano State Government has shared Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to 538 public and private schools, ahead of their resumption for the WASSC examination today.

Deputy Governor Nasiru Gawuna, who represented Governor Abdullahi Ganduje during the exercise at Mairo Tijjani Girls Secondary School, urged the schools to use the PPEs judiciously.

Gawuna said the distribution of PPE is to fulfil the promise by the Ganduje administration to curtail the spread of Covid-19 in Kano State.

Also, Borno and Yobe states’ students have started returning to their school premises.

While Borno State announced its resumption date for August 9, Yobe State settled for August 8 for all boarding students, while academic activities in all the schools are to begin today.

Our correspondent, who monitored the resumption from both states, observed that the turnout of students has been impressive.

At the Government Girls Unity Secondary School which accommodates three schools due to the insurgency, there was an influx of the students from different parts of the state and the country.
