10 arrested as Police, land grabbers clash in Ogun

Men of Ogun state police command and some suspected land grabbers on Thursday, clashed at Ewujomo village, via Igbosoro in Ogijo in the Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.

The suspected land grabbers had invaded Ewujomo village and unleashed terror on the residents of the area over a disputed land but, were chased away by policemen attached to Ogijo station.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the clash in a statement on Thursday.

Oyeyemi said the incident which occurred on Wednesday led to the arrest of 10 suspected members of a land-grabbing syndicate.

The PPRO said the suspects arrested were members of the syndicate that specialised in unleashing terror on innocent residents of the people of the state.

He said the suspect; Ismaila Lawal, Tope Oniyide, Sodiq Lawal, Ahmed Olaringbe, Gafar Kafo, Ismaila Haruna, Okanlawon Olabinjo, Kamoru Arulogun Suleman Oresesun, and Kazeem Oresesun were arrested following a distress call received by the police.

According to Oyeyemi, the hoodlums armed with dangerous weapons invaded the village in motorcycles creating panic on the villagers who were running helter-skelter.

He said "on receiving the information, the DPO Ogijo division, CSP Suleman Baba Muhammed mobilized his men and moved to the scene.

"On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums whose actions have thrown the community into pandemonium started shooting sporadically but were overpowered by the police and they succeeded in apprehending ten members of the syndicate while some escaped with various degrees of injuries.

"Recovered from the arrested suspects are, two live cartridges, two expended cartridges, one expended Brownie pistol ammunition, charm, and three Bajaj motorcycles."

He said the commissioner of police, Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

According to him, the who praised the gallantry display of his warned that anybody with criminal intent will not find a safe haven in Ogun state and any criminal who decides to test the will power of the command will meet his Waterloo.

" The CP, therefore, assured the good people of Ogun state of adequate security moreso that Yuletide season is around the corner."
