The Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki has announced a new minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants.

He said this on Monday, April 29, 2024, during the inauguration of the Labour House.

Obaseki reportedly named the Labour House after former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, also the Senator representing Edo North.

The governor said, “The new minimum wage regime in Edo will take effect from May 1, 2024.”

His announcement comes following the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC efforts to get a new minimum wage across states amid the hardship in the country.

It has been said that the removal of subsidies and the exchange rate caused an inflation and hike in prices of goods.

The national minimum wage of N30,000 instituted since April 18, 2019, has received massive criticisms from Nigerians with citizens calling for an increase as a result of the economic hardship.
